The Wait Is Over: The 2026 NFL Season Starts Today!
9/9/2026 by Alan

The draft picks are in. Training camp is behind us. The preseason is over. And after months of predictions, roster debates, and fantasy football preparation, the 2026 NFL regular season begins today, September 9. NFL season calendar
Now comes the best part: watching the games.
The Rookies Have Had Their First Tests
Back in April, every draft pick came with a scouting report, a highlight reel, and a whole lot of hope. Since then, the 2026 rookie class has begun learning what playing in the NFL demands.
Practices, meetings, and preseason opportunities have given coaches their first real look at their newest players. Some rookies will be asked to contribute immediately. Others will need time to develop.
Now we get to see who can turn that promise into production when the games count.
The Initial 53-Man Rosters Are Set
Every season brings difficult decisions. Veterans compete to keep their jobs. Late-round picks and undrafted players fight for an opportunity. Coaches weigh potential against experience.
The initial 53-man roster decisions are behind us, giving fans a clearer picture of the teams they will be cheering for this fall. There will still be injuries, signings, and roster changes along the way, but the offseason question of “Who makes the team?” gives way to something much more interesting:
What can this team accomplish?
Training Camp and Preseason Are Over
We have spent weeks reading practice reports, watching preseason highlights, and wondering how much any of it really means.
Was that impressive touchdown a sign of a breakout season? Is that struggling offense still finding its rhythm? Will the new coaching staff make the difference everyone hopes it will?
The regular season starts providing answers. Starters get extended action, game plans become more specific, and every result becomes part of the playoff race.
Fantasy Football Preparation Meets Reality
For most fantasy managers, draft day is now in the rearview mirror. The research, mock drafts, rankings, and last-minute decisions have produced a roster that looks like a contender—at least to the person who drafted it.
Maybe you landed your favorite running back. Maybe someone grabbed your sleeper one pick too early. Maybe you are already trying to decide which wide receiver belongs in your starting lineup.
Now the fun begins. Those projected points become actual results, and the player you took a chance on gets an opportunity to reward your confidence.
Just remember: one great week does not win a championship, and one disappointing week does not end your season.
It’s Time to Enjoy the Games
There will be surprises. A team nobody believed in will make some noise. A player barely mentioned this summer will become a weekly conversation. A supposedly obvious prediction will look a lot less obvious by October.
That uncertainty is part of why we love football.
So set your fantasy lineup, get your picks in, grab your favorite game-day food, and make some room on the couch. Whether you are following every matchup or simply cheering for your team, months of football are ahead of us.
Here at MyFootballToolbox, we’re ready for the debates, the unexpected heroes, the close finishes, and the Monday-morning second-guessing.
Welcome back, football. Let’s enjoy the season!
