Injury and Legacy
In a tragic turn of events, Stingley's career was cut short due to a severe spinal injury he sustained during a preseason game in 1978, which left him paralyzed from the neck down.
Despite the challenges he faced after his injury, Stingley became an advocate for spinal cord injury awareness and worked to help others affected by similar conditions. He was inducted into the New England Patriots All-1970s Team and is remembered as a pioneer for the franchise.
