A three-star prospect and the 28th-ranked player in Ohio by 247Sports, Edwards was a three-year letterwinner and 2019 team captain at Groveport Madison. As a senior he made 53 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, earning First-Team All-OCC, All-District, All-Metro, Division I All-State and All-Ohio honors. He helped lead Groveport to a 10-3 record, an OCC championship and a regional runner-up finish.

After transferring to Illinois, he played all 13 games in 2022, recording 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery. He played all 12 games in 2023. In 2024, Edwards played all 13 games, made his first Illinois start in the opener, recorded a career-high eight tackles at Oregon, and produced two sacks and a forced fumble against Michigan.
