What is the NFL Draft?

The NFL Draft is the league's annual player-selection process. NFL clubs take turns selecting eligible prospects, most of whom played college football, with the selection order designed in part to give earlier choices to teams with weaker records.

The event runs for three days and includes trades, compensatory selections, and seven rounds. A drafted player receives negotiating rights with the team that selected him; eligible players who are not selected can sign as undrafted free agents afterward.
