NFL General · FAQ

Can an NFL team relocate to another city?

Yes, an NFL club can relocate, but its owner cannot complete a move unilaterally. The club must submit a relocation proposal, and the league evaluates it under its relocation policies.

A move requires approval from three-fourths of the NFL's member clubs—currently at least 24 of 32. The review can consider the existing market, stadium efforts, the proposed destination and venue, financing, league interests, and effects on fans and other clubs.
