When was the NFL founded?

The league that became the NFL was formed in Canton, Ohio, in 1920. It began as the American Professional Football Association.

The organization adopted the name National Football League in 1922. Counting the inaugural 1920 season, the NFL celebrated its 100th season in 2019.
