What does a quarterback do?

The quarterback leads the offense and normally receives the snap from the center. From there, the quarterback may throw a forward pass, hand the ball to a runner, keep it, or execute another designed play.

Before the snap, quarterbacks often communicate the play, identify defensive alignments, adjust protections, and change assignments. Their responsibilities also include ball security, timing, decision-making, and managing the game situation.
