What is an NFL depth chart?

An NFL depth chart organizes a team's players by position and expected role. A starter generally appears first, followed by backups and other players competing for snaps.

Depth charts are useful guides, but they are not guarantees. Actual playing time can change with formations, game plans, injuries, performance, and specialized personnel packages.
