How Fantasy Football Scoring Works

Fantasy football scoring converts real NFL statistics into points. Passing, rushing, receiving, kicking, and defensive results are assigned values by the league platform. Your starters' points are added to produce the team score for that week.

Common offensive scoring

Leagues often award points for passing, rushing, and receiving yards; passing and skill-position touchdowns; and receptions in PPR formats. Interceptions, fumbles lost, or missed kicks may subtract points.

Defense and kicking

Kickers score through extra points and field goals. D/ST can score through sacks, takeaways, safeties, defensive touchdowns, return touchdowns, and points allowed.

Settings are the authority

There is no single universal scoring system. Quarterback touchdown values, yardage intervals, bonuses, reception scoring, and defense rules can all vary. Review the complete settings before drafting because a player's value depends partly on how the league rewards that player's production.
