What Happens During a Fantasy Football Season?

A fantasy football season begins with a draft and continues through weekly NFL games, roster moves, matchups, standings, and fantasy playoffs. Managers must keep making decisions after draft day because injuries and player roles change throughout the year.

The weekly cycle

Early in the week, leagues process waiver claims and managers evaluate free agents. Practices and injury reports provide more information as the next games approach. Before each player locks, managers choose starters and bench players while accounting for matchups, health, and bye weeks.

Games and scoring

As NFL games are played, the fantasy platform converts player statistics into points. Most leagues use head-to-head matchups, so your weekly score is compared with one opponent. Stat corrections can occasionally change a close result after games end.

Standings and playoffs

Wins, losses, and tiebreakers determine the standings. Near the end of the fantasy regular season, qualifying teams enter a playoff bracket. Managers continue using waivers, setting lineups, and reacting to injuries until a champion is decided.
