What Is a Bench Spot?

A bench spot holds a player on your fantasy roster who is not active in the weekly starting lineup. Bench players usually score no points for your team while they remain there, but they provide replacements and future options.

What belongs on a bench

Useful bench players include backups for injured starters, players covering upcoming bye weeks, rookies or emerging players with upside, and depth at positions where waivers are thin. The ideal mix depends on roster size and league format.

Use bench space actively

A bench should change as new information becomes available. If a player loses a role or no longer has a believable path into your lineup, that spot may be better used on a waiver addition. Avoid filling too many spots with low-upside players who all serve the same purpose.

Bench depth is valuable, but fantasy points come from starters. As the season progresses, prioritize players who can protect or improve your actual lineup.
