What Is an Auction Draft?

An auction draft, often called a salary-cap draft, gives each manager a fixed budget to build a roster. Managers take turns nominating players, and the highest bidder wins each player.

Budget replaces draft position

Every manager can attempt to acquire any player, but spending heavily on stars leaves less money for the rest of the roster. Managers must track both their own budget and the buying power of opponents.

Nominations and bidding

A nomination is not the same as a selection. You may nominate a player you want or use nominations strategically to encourage opponents to spend. Avoid bidding beyond your planned value simply because a player is currently available.

Auction drafts reward preparation, flexibility, and careful budget management. League platforms normally enforce minimum remaining funds so every manager can complete a legal roster.
