What Is an IR Spot?
An IR spot is a special fantasy roster position for a player who has an eligible injury designation. Moving that player to IR can open a normal roster spot for a healthy replacement without forcing you to drop the injured player.
Eligibility varies
Fantasy platforms may allow players designated IR, PUP, out, or sometimes suspended or COVID-related under older rules. A player listed as questionable or doubtful may not qualify. Your league can also customize the number of IR spots and accepted designations.
Managing an IR return
When the player is no longer eligible, the platform may prevent new roster moves until the player is activated or removed. Plan ahead when a return appears close so you know which player will be dropped.
IR is useful roster flexibility, but it is not unlimited storage. Keep injured players when their expected future value justifies the spot and recovery timeline.
