What is a drop?

A drop identifies a catchable pass that the receiver did not secure. It is a judgment-based charting statistic rather than a synonym for every incomplete pass.

An obviously uncatchable throw is not normally charged as a drop. Providers can disagree about difficult catches, contact, and placement, so compare drop totals within the same data source. The ordinary box score still records the unsuccessful pass as incomplete.
