What is a pass defended?

A pass defended, also called a pass defensed and often abbreviated PD, credits a defender's successful action against a pass. It can include breaking up the catch or intercepting the ball.

An uncatchable overthrow is not automatically a pass defended for the nearest defender. Check the source before combining this total with interceptions: a PD total may already include them, while a separately labeled pass-breakup statistic may exclude them.
