What is a quarterback hit?

A quarterback hit measures qualifying contact with a passer. The NFL's statistical guidance includes defensive action that knocks the passer to the ground or his knees, and excludes hits penalized as roughing or other personal fouls.

A provider's advanced hit column may use a narrower definition, such as knockdowns after a throw excluding sacks. Read the glossary before adding hits and sacks together, because categories may overlap or be defined differently.
