What is a reception?

A reception is the receiving player's credit for a completed forward pass. The catch must satisfy NFL rules, including control and the required inbounds catch process.

The passer receives a completion on the same play. A catch can gain no yards or lose yards and still count as a reception. Taking a handoff or catching a backward pitch is not a forward-pass reception.
