What is a rushing touchdown?

A rushing touchdown is a touchdown scored on a rushing play. A quarterback sneak and a running back's goal-line carry are common examples.

Running after catching a forward pass ordinarily produces a receiving touchdown, not a rushing touchdown. A successful two-point run is a conversion rather than a rushing touchdown. These classifications explain why a player can run into the end zone without increasing his rushing-touchdown total.
