What is an assisted tackle?

An assisted tackle recognizes a defender's contribution to a shared stop. The scorer distinguishes it from a solo tackle according to the defenders' roles.

Two players helping equally can each receive an assist. In other situations, a primary tackler can receive a solo tackle while a second defender receives an assist. Individual combined-tackle totals therefore should not be treated as a count of unique plays.
