What is an official statistic?

An official statistic is part of the NFL's recognized statistical record, compiled through its game-statistics process and subject to league review. It is different from a publisher's independent film grade or proprietary rating.

A website can display official totals alongside its own analysis. The label matters: an official completion total and an analyst's estimate of quarterback performance answer different questions. Official figures can still be corrected after the game.
