What is receiving first-down rate?

Receiving first-down rate measures how often receiving opportunities produce first downs. The denominator must be stated: a table may use receptions, targets, or another defined opportunity measure.

For example, 12 receiving first downs on 20 catches is a 60 percent rate per reception. With 30 targets, the same 12 first downs equal 40 percent per target. Compare rates only when they use the same denominator and time period.
