Franklin began his career at UTSA, where he became the program's career leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches. After a redshirt season at Ole Miss in 2023, he transferred to Illinois in 2024; by the end of his college career, he had 321 receptions, 4,038 yards and 42 receiving touchdowns.
