How many points is a field goal worth?

A successful NFL field goal is worth three points. The kick must pass above the crossbar and between the uprights for the points to count.

A team may attempt a field goal on any down, but it is most commonly tried on fourth down when the offense is within its kicker's practical range. If the kick misses, possession generally passes to the opponent under the applicable spot rules.
